Hallel on Independence Day - Talmudic Roots of a Modern Mitzvah

Israel Independence day commemorates a watershed moment in Jewish history which is the rise of the Third Israeli Sovereignty in History. Like any major event in Jewish history, Halacha has built in responses to such events. However, since the previous sovereignty was under the Hasmonean Government over two thousand years ago, we sometimes think that these discussions are a novelty. In my talk I discuss the halachic obligation for  reciting of the Hallel (prayer of Thanksgiving) on Israel Independence Day and on Yom Yerushalayim from Talmudic sources.
