Dr. Miriam Kahana

    CV

Dr. Miriam (Laor) Kahana holds a Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her dissertation, written under the supervision of Professor Moshe Bar Asher, examined the language and exegesis of the Targum Jonathan to the Minor prophets from Nahum to Malachi. The work seeks to examine the changes that the Targum introduces into the text and the motivation for these changes, thereby characterizing the Targum's interpretive techniques and exegetical methodology.

Her main areas of research are the Aramaic Bible translations, in particular the changing syntactical structure of a verse as an exegetical tool, as well as an overall view of the translation of the entire prophetic unit; teaching of the Bible and its interpretation, mainly from the point of view of text processing.

In addition, Dr. Kahana is engaged in the field of teaching the Bible: she is a lecturer at the Efrata College of Education in Jerusalem and participates in writing curricula and planning teacher training programs. She also studies and teaches in a variety of women's Beit Midrash programs: Nishmat, Matan, Beit Morsha, Drisha, and more.
